Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Advance Disposal

General Questions

  • What dumpster sizes do you offer?

    We offer four dumpster types:

    • 40-yard dumpster: Our most popular option, ideal for large projects due to its efficiency and ability to hold a massive amount of trash or recyclables.
    • 20-yard dumpster: Half the size of the 40-yard, perfect for medium-sized jobs.
    • 10-yard dumpster: Great for small cleanups or projects.
    • 10-yard rock box: Designed for recycling heavy items like concrete, dirt, or asphalt.
  • What are the dumpster measurements?

    • 10-yard dumpster (trash): 8 ft wide x 12 ft long x 3.9 ft tall
    • 20-yard dumpster: 8 ft wide x 16 ft long x 5 ft tall
    • 40-yard dumpster: 8 ft wide x 22 ft long x 7.5 ft tall

Dumpster Use and Materials

  • How does debris type affect disposal?

Landfills and recycling centers charge different rates based on debris type. Mixing two or more types (e.g., trash and recyclables) turns the load into “trash,” which may cost more. Source-separating debris (e.g., one dumpster for concrete only) is often cheaper. Tell us exactly what you’re disposing of so we can take it to the most cost-effective facility.

  • What can I put in the dumpster?

You can dispose of household junk (e.g., furniture, appliances without Freon), yard waste (e.g., branches, grass), recyclable materials (e.g., concrete, metal), and construction debris (e.g., drywall, wood). Sorting facilities like Sierra Waste can recycle over 70% of construction and demolition debris by weight.

  • What are the most common types of debris?

Common debris include trash, construction debris, roofing materials, clean dirt, recyclable concrete, asphalt, and household junk. Less common recyclable loads (e.g., cardboard, paper, wood, green waste, metal) must be source-separated to avoid being classified as trash.

  • What items are prohibited in the dumpster?

Hazardous items are not allowed, including TVs, tires, car batteries, propane tanks, motor oil, railroad ties, treated/pressure-treated wood (see https://dtsc.ca.gov/toxics-inproducts/treated-wood-waste/), paint, palm trees, fluorescent light tubes, computer screens, contaminated dirt, and e-waste. Items banned by local transfer stations or requiring extra fees will be billed to you if included.

  • How do I get rid of household hazardous waste?

Most jurisdictions have designated drop-off facilities:

  • Is there a legal weight limit for the dumpster?

Yes, the maximum is 10 tons (20,000 lbs) per dumpster. Exceeding this may result in fines (e.g., $1 per pound) under state law, which will be passed on to the customer.

  • Can I mix different types of waste in one dumpster?

Yes, as long as all materials are permitted. For example, yard waste and household items can be combined, but avoid prohibited items.

  • What happens if I fill the dumpster over the top?

For safety and legal reasons, we cannot transport an overfilled dumpster. Keep debris below the fill line. If you need more space, we can swap it for a new one.

Logistics and Placement

  • Where can the dumpster be placed?

We can place it on your driveway, yard, or street (with a permit, if required). Let us know your preference when booking.

  • Do I need a permit for the dumpster?

A permit is typically required only if the dumpster is on public property (e.g., a street). Check with your local municipality, or we can help confirm requirements.

  • How much space do I need for the dumpster?

Allow extra room for delivery and door access (at least 4 ft):

    • 10-yard: 16 ft long x 10 ft wide
    • 20-yard: 20 ft x 10 ft
    • 40-yard: 26 ft x 10 ft

We’ll ensure it fits your site, considering narrow streets and parking constraints.

  • What if I need the dumpster moved after it’s dropped off?

Moving it after placement incurs a relocation fee. Let’s confirm the spot upfront to avoid extra costs.

  • What if I finish early or need it picked up sooner?

No problem! Call us at 916-444-8676, and we’ll schedule an early pickup at your

    convenience.
